Architecture students design for the community
For the second year running, the Yale School of Architecture has partnered with NeighborWorks New Horizons and HTP Ventures LLC with the aim of producing affordable housing from a chosen student’s design. Yale Students are challenged to create a cost-efficient and flexible design prototype that could be applied to sites in New Haven and other urban areas across the country.
The programme is focused on designing and constructing low-cost homes in economically distressed neighbourhoods in New Haven, Connecticut. The brief was focused on a 1,000 square foot house to be located on a corner lot in New Haven’s West River neighbourhood.
The two-storey house is clad in red cedar and is topped with a pitched roof made of galvanised aluminium. “The pitched roof was a contextually sensitive response to the traditional New England gable roof,” said the school.
Studco® was committed to support this project by supplying the EzyJamb® system. The clean modern lines of the students design were the perfect alignment for the flush finishes that EzyJamb provides.
To be able to contribute to a development that supports one of the most prestigious education organizations in the country is a real privilege.
